Sleevage

sleevage2.gif

I love album cover-art, and apparently, so do the folks behind Sleevage! The Australia-based blog is looking to become the web’s best, and most complete resource on album cover-art. Visitors of the site are able to search through their growing catalog of artwork using an array of filters, including Artist, Genre, Record Label, Era, Design Studio and Cover Artist. They seem to be lacking in the hip hop department right now, but the good news is that viewer submissions are welcomed. So if there’s a cover that you don’t see listed, send it in. In the meantime, have a look around the site.

Takin’ It Back:

Boy has technology come a long way. Peep this video of Herbie Hancock giving the kids of Sesame Street a demo of his Fairlight Synthesizer, one the first digital samplers on the market. A young Tatyana Ali (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) makes an appearance here as well.

Moneygami

moneygami

If you’re familiar with Origami, you’re probably used to seeing carefully folded paper cranes, stars, and other peaceful, innocent symbols along those lines. That’s not the case here. The artist behind this particular series used real money instead of regular paper, and proceeded to fold new life into presidents, queens, and other countrymen pictured on the front of the bills. Amazing stuff! Check out the full series at the link below.

Apple Losing Its Cool?

apple store nyc

The Washington Post has an interesting piece on the transformation of the Apple Store experience. With the growing popularity of Apple products, and new converts each year, some feel that the store has lost its intimate, almost club-like, “I know that you know that I know that we know and love Macs like nobody else does”, feel.

Whatever it is (Radio Shack for rich people? The Sharp -est Image?), the Apple Store isn’t what it used to be, even a year or so ago. The initial thrills, the feelings of i-comfort and i-belonging, still await you behind its translucent facade, especially now, in the gizmodic spree of the Christmas season. But somewhere along the way, the zendo quality of the Apple Store changed.

The demi-privacy of it, the clubby feeling — I know that you know that I know that we know and love Macs like nobody else does– is fading away. Too much commotion. The ethereal, tranquil, spa vibe (the bath of white light, the polished concrete floors, the glint in the happy eyes of the geniuses at the Genius Bar) has been pierced by the sheer popularity of the place. The TV commercials worked. Mac Guy, even with his non-arrogant arrogance, is your real friend, and then he gathered too many friends, and suddenly he doesn’t have time for them all.

Pocket Films Festival Japan

Pocket Films Fest Japan (website)

I really can’t think of anything particularly witty or intersting to say about this story at the moment. My mind is really somewhere else today, I guess. I really dig what’s going on here though. Really. It’s always a great thing when people push products to the limit and/or use them in rather extraordinary ways, well beyond what their creators ever inteneded for them to do…creating a small movement in the process. Much more could, and probably will come from this…let’s stay tuned.

The Pocket Films Festival explores the potential for audio-visual expression that lies hidden in a “practical high-tech toy,” and through various media, aims to construct an ideal method of communication that excites our sensibilities – something not yet obvious even to artists.

…Films can have any theme and be of any length. The films must have been produced using a mobile phone. There are two categories of film according to screening format: mobile display films and screen display films…

Eye-Fi Wireless Memory Card

Eye-Fi Wireless Memory Card

I love taking digital photos, I must admit, but when its time for me to upload the flicks onto my computer, forget about it. Switching around memory cards, connecting USB cables, creating new folders…I hate it. Sometimes it can take me a little over a month before I actually get around to making the transfer. Well, maybe not that long, I’m exaggerating just a bit; just know that I don’t hop on the task as fast as one should. Not good. The people at Eye-Fi must have felt my pain, and that of many others, when they created the world’s very first wireless SD memory card. Peep…

The Eye-Fi Card is a wireless memory card. It automatically uploads pictures from your digital camera to your PC or Mac and to your favorite photo sharing, printing, blogging or social networking site. No cables, no waiting, no hassles.

The Eye-Fi Card comes with everything needed to make it simple to set up and connect to your home Wi-Fi network. After that, pop the card into your digital camera and start capturing those memories. It stores pictures like a regular SD card no matter where you are, and uploads your photos automatically as soon as you return to your home network. All you have to do is turn the camera on.

Your photos are sent wirelessly from the Eye-Fi Card inside your camera through your home Wi-Fi network directly to your PC or Mac. They are automatically saved in the folder you choose.

I think I’m going to scoop one up real soon and give it a try for myself. I’ll keep you guys posted.
