Tons of hip-hop artists lend their talents to various ad campaigns these days. It’s nothing new. Sometimes the pairings are good, sometimes they’re bad, and other times they’re just downright strange. Take this viral video promoting Garnier Fructis shampoo, for example . Everything starts out pretty normal. There’s a girl group (one presumably pieced together just for this video) doing their little ditty on the benefits of Garnier shampoo. Everyone’s dancing, smiling, plenty of Garnier product placement throughout, and then, out of nowhere, Memphis Bleek shows up to drop a few bars on the on the glow replenishing, silky smooth powers of Garnier! *Immediate straight face, proceeded by tons of Huh’s and WTF’s!* 1-900-Hustler, R.O.C. Bleek promoting shampoo? Were the execs looking to reach that hip-hop loving, Garnier using demographic with this spot, or what? I’m stumped. But whatevs. Watch the video and get your wtf on.

Kobe Bryant and Nike are back at it again with yet another viral commercial promoting the new Nike Hyperdunks. And this time around they’ve enlisted the help of the Jackass crew to make things that much more interesting:

What do you think: Real or Fake?

I’m still convinced that Kobe’s first stunt, the Aston Martin jump, was real. However, this one, I don’t know. Somewhere around mid flight things start to look a little suspect. Either way, I’m entertained, and these videos are spreading across the net just as the advertising lords intended. Mission Accomplished!

A rececent study, conducted by two Duke University Professors, found that individuals who were subliminally exposed to the logos of Apple and Disney saw increases in their level of creativity and honesty:

What does your brand do for consumers? If you’re Apple, you make them more creative, and if you’re Disney, you make them more honest.

So says research published in the April issue of the Journal of Consumer Research that found test subjects who were shown a logo for 30 milliseconds — a subliminal flash that was not actually “seen” — were much more likely to be creative or candid in the cases of Apple and the Disney Channel, respectively.
