After being teased with a screen capture on Kanye’s blog last week, the long awaited video for ‘Flashing Lights’ has finally made its way to web. While I love the twisted plot and the featured ‘eye candy’ (damn, Rita G!), I’d be lying if I said I was totally blown away by the video. After ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothin’ the whole slow-motion, Kanye plus model in the desert concept just doesnt hit as hard this time around. Guess I was expecting a little more. There are few rumors going around that this may only be a trailer, or at least one of several videos that were supposedly shot for the track. Who knows…But for now I guess I’ll take what we have. At the end of the day, Kanye’s still one of the few hip hop artists whose videos continually go above and beyond the usual cookie cutter joints that flood the market. Peep and discuss.
Nearly four years old, and “Accordion†still holds up as one of my favorite tracks to come off of the MF Doom-Madlib album, Madvillainy. Unfortunately, its accompanying video has never seen the light of day until now. Stones Throw Records will be releasing the video, along with an assortment of videos and bonus features, on its upcoming DVD “In Living the True Godsâ€.
2007 was a pretty rough year for Hip Hop. Besides all the various run-in’s with the law that many artists seemed to experience, the real craziness began when just about everyone outside of the music industry began to blame hip hop for their own troubles. I don’t think I have to remind you guys about the events that kicked things off, or do I? Anyhow, Ice Cube recently dropped a new track with an accompanying video, properly titled “Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It “, that touches screams on the entire hip hop blame game of ‘07. Take that!
Early prediction for 2008: This will be the year of IPTV!
Earlier today, Comcast, the nation’s leader in entertainment, information and communications product/services, officially launched Fancast.com. It’s the company’s latest crack at the IPTV game, and what many may view as the first real competitor to News Corps /NBC’s IPTV site, Hulu.com (although I’m not quite sure that this is the case). Much like Hulu, members of Fancast have access to a massive library of full length TV shows and movies from an array of national and cable networks. As an added bonus, members will soon be able to control the functions of their Comcast DVR directly from the site. Cool stuff. In the meantime, go register and take a look at things for yourself!
I know I’m a couple days late with this, but I had to post it anyway. Skillz brings us another installment of his annual “Rap Up”, and this time around he’s teamed up with director Chris Robinson to produce an official video. I love these joints!
Remember the “Us Placers” track, featuring Lupe, Kanye, and Pharrell that dropped on the mixtape circuit a few months back? Well here’s the video to go along with it. Peep.
Jay Smooth, of Ill Doctrine.com, gives us the rundown on “little hatersâ€-those subconscious voices from within that talk us out of accomplishing our goals, and ultimately lead us into a sad state of procrastination. I think we all have our bouts with them from time to time, I know I do. My “little haters†were responsible for the rather long period of inactivity around here. I took what I thought would be a quick break to explore some new ideas (truthfully, I began to believe that things around here weren’t good enough), and *bam*, before I knew it nearly two years had gone be. Crazy. Luckily I found some inspiration in all the right places, so I decided to hop back in the Delorean and give it another go (that sounds like a corny facebook status message, right? lol). This time I’m pressing “mute†on the “little hatersâ€.
Everywhere I look these days I come across yet another magazine or blog that’s compiled some sort of year-end list highlighting their best and worst picks of 2007 (i.e. music, gadgets, ideas, etc). While many of them do have a tendency to become a little redundant after while, it’s always cool to see whether or not my “projections on cool†were on point. Today I came across yet another list, this one highlighting the Top 50 Music Videos of 2007, according to Pitchfork. They’ve picked a little bit of everything here, not just hip hop, however some of the more notable hip hop acts that made the list include: Jay-Z (Roc Boys And The Winner Is), Snoop Dogg (Sensual Seduction), and UGK ft. Outkast (Player’s Anthem). They’re a couple things missing off their list, but hey, I’ll let that ride. Also, take a look at their list of the 20 Worst Album Covers of 2007 (Common and Remy Ma make appearances here), some of their picks here are quite interesting, to say the very least.
